My Birth Philosophy

I Believe:

  • Pregnancy & birth are normal, natural processes of life & these processes should be trusted.  Pregnancy is not an illness, and should not be treated that way.
  • Your due date is an estimated date, not an expiration date.
  • Partners are just as emotionally invested in pregnancy & labor.  They need support to minimize anxiety & feel involved & connected to the birth process.
  • How women feel in labor (safe, private, unobserved & supported) greatly effect birth outcomes.
  • In gravity.  While in labor, a woman should move around as much as she wants to.
  • A woman should work with labor, not against it.
  • In evidence based care.
  • Sometimes birth happens quickly & sometimes it happens slowly.  When left alone, it usually works.
  • Any feelings of fear, stress or pressure of any kind that are put on a woman can delay, or in some cases stop, a woman’s labor (as it does with all female animals).
  • Birth should be an empowering & trans-formative experience.
  • Unnecessary medical interventions can have a snowball effect on the birth process.
  • All mothers & fathers have the right to be active participants in the birth process.  This means making informed decisions about where & how she gives birth, including whatever interventions (or lack there of) are used.
  • Every birth is different & unique.  I will support whatever kind of birth YOU choose.
